A life in miniature

Quirky French snapper Vincent Bousserez has created a vast selection of pictures of miniature plastic people carrying out day-to-day activities. Vincent came up with the 'Plastic Life' series following a trip to a miniature model shop four years ago: "I stared at them thinking, I should choose one and shoot him in different places, in different situations. And I did."

Vincent carries the mini characters around with him at all times so he can take a shot when an idea springs to mind. The self-taught photographer added: "I take them on holiday, I take them everywhere. I could be anywhere and see stuff around me and the inspiration just comes naturally." Once he has an idea, Vincent spends 20 to 30 minutes capturing it on camera.

His collection of 80 photographs has been exhibited in three shows in Paris and received rave reviews in the arts world. 'Plastic Life' tells witty tales of vanity, substance and gluttony that, despite their strangeness we can't help but like them.

Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen

New york and Paris-based commercial and fine art photographer, Erica Simone, exhibits her collection "Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen" during a solo show at the Dash Gallery, New York City.

The art gallery will exhibit approximately 20 photographs of Simone literally exposing herself all over New York City. From the streets to the subway, and from Bowery to the Bronx, Simone publicly bares all, raising the philosophy behind "just being", as well as playing with the idea of 'counter-fashion' - that without clothing, people could not possibly socially interpret each other.

Each image tells a story and each story conveys a unique experience for the artist. Erica Simone's free-spirited philosophy, lack of inhibition and drive to express herself has made way for a provocative photographic project which raises controversy and questioning.

Aside from her Nue York collection, the Franco-American photographer has won various awards for her photography, including from National Geographic and PHOTO magazines and her work has been published in countless print and online magazines. Her passion for travel and humankind has brought her all over the world with her camera. Additional photographic works of Erica Simone may be seen here.

SLINKACHU

London-based street artist Slinkachu creates installations in finely-detailed miniature using litter and cut up train set figures less than 4cm tall. "It is a strange kind of buzz abandoning your creations on the street," he says.

Street Photography Now Project

Hope all of our photography students are making the most of taking photos in the snow!!

Just saw this project for street photography..

It is organised over a year with one subject each week: every Friday, a leading contemporary street photographer will issue a new instruction, written to inspire fresh way of looking at and documenting the world we live in. You can submit up to one photo per instruction to a special Flickr Group. After six days the next instruction will be issued.

It is a great idea for those looking for inspiration and drive, or those looking just for a reason to get out and shoot!

The project will run for 52 weeks, and you can join in at any time. The aim is to build a global community of photographers exploring the rewards and challenges of documenting public life.

It's not strictly a competition, but there is an award for £1000 worth of books, and it is run in conjunction with the Photographers' Gallery during its closure for remodelling and the Street Photography Now book.

If you want to join in, then see here for how to take part.

It certainly looks interesting and if you subscribe to it, please let us know so we can see how you are doing and to follow your progress :)
