Darren Siwes

Darren Siwes is a Aboriginal artist whose photographic work is becoming highly sought after. He's well known for his nocturnal images of ethereal figures standing in recognisable locations around Adelaide, the UK and now Perth. These ghostly figures (usually Darren and his wife) are created using time-lapse photography. Time-lapse photography is a cinematography technique whereby the frequency at while film frames are captured is a lot lower than that which will be used to play the sequence back. The resulting eerily lit photographs are loaded with meaning, often referencing issues of identity - personal, historical and cultural. A well dressed aboriginal man stands in front of iconic buildings, signifying his integration into a white community and his detachment and alienation from that.
